Project: “Jumanji: The Next Level”
I worked on this project as a CFX Technical Director.
My mainly duty was to write a tool that would help creating the groom for the ostriches.
This tool lets the groomers:
– Create a feather (create a mesh for the shaft and grow hair on it)
– Mirror the vanes of the feather
– Duplicate the feathers randomly on the character body
– Move, rotate and delete the feathers
– Mirror the feathers on the character
Innovation Award
I got an Innovation Award at Sony Pictures Imageworks for my “Feather Tool”
-What is your innovation?
A tool that helps to create realistic feathers and populate a character with them.
-What problem does your project solve?
With complex characters, such as the ostriches with thousands of feathers, you would have to create each feather manually, what is a really time consuming task.
With the tool you don’t need to create all of them, just a few and place them all over the character.
-Why is your project innovative?
The groomer can get a first pass of the character really quickly and then spend the majority of the time tweaking the groom, letting have way more iterations.
